Vases
Each piece within this collection is crafted entirely by hand using an assortment (10-30 different species) of salvaged rare and exotic hardwood fragments that are arranged one-by-one, in a series of varying layers, to create the unique curvature of each hollow form. Once assembled, each vase is finely planed and sanded - without the use of any machining or lathe-turning, which is made visible in the imperfectly formed undulations - to achieve a smooth exterior surface. Each piece is finally finished to expose the distinctive natural (unstained) colours of its unique array of woods using either walnut oil for a matte finish, or an old violin-style spirit varnish (shellac) for a rich lustre.
