Hormoz Lamassu is a self-taught craftsman and professional tool and mold maker who has dedicated over 50 years to his work.
Before immigrating to Canada from Urmia, he worked as a professional luthier (string instrument maker) who specialized in violins and middle eastern lutes like the kamancha, tar, and setar. His hobby work, most prominently explored through the medium of wood, is greatly influenced by his Assyrian heritage and is particularly reminiscent of its ancient sculpture. Currently, he is dedicating his time to both the revival of his vase collection and to his tool and mold work that he produces from his machine shop.
